I ventured into the world of tattooing (I say this cause once you’re in, you never get out.)
In the early 90’s tattooing on friends and whoever would let me practice on them.
After tuning my skills a bit I opened my first studio in a pretty bad part of town on the south side of Houston, Tx. There weren’t many shops around at the time, only a few ran by bikers and old timers. I was faced by alot of threats and violence from other shop owners for “opening on their turf”, that’s how people did things back then, I understand the reasoning behind this today, but I had to go through a lot of shit to get where I am today. I opened my second studio on Westhiemer in the mid 90’s, a few folks still remember 2nd skin studio as many of my employees have went on to be quite successful at what they do..Todd Waters, John McCain, Tee jay Hernandez, Pete Gilcrese , My brother Nate Beavers just to name a few of the fuckers. I spent several years working in the mid-town area….well now it’s known as that…back in the day they just called it forth-ward.
I always enjoyed the subject being tattooed in Houston during those years….”people ask for the craziest shit!”, everyone was constantly trying to outdo the next guys wackiness’ . Houston defiantly has its own style!
